| Welcome back in the saddle again– Mick Foulds! |
| August 22nd started out as any other for Mick. Reporting for work as a shunter on the railway in Essex Mick walked along the tracks when a freight train came from behind and knocked him onto the tracks. Before he had time to react, two of the carriages ran over his legs severing them both below the knees. Mick’s thoughts turned to that of his loved ones but despite loosing much blood the prompt response from the emergency services managed to save his life. |
Once at the hospital, Mick was taken straight into surgery and when he had recovered from the anaesthetic Mick asked the surgeon if he would be able to ride again? The surgeon’s words were those of encouragement and Mick determined as ever was not going to be beaten. His goal was to compete again in rodeo and Polocrosse. Mick’s determination was an inspiration to us all. Through the highs and the lows the retraining and frustrations and against all odds he was back in the saddle nine days after getting his first set of legs. He had to withdraw from the team at the National Championships in 2007 due to the accident. One year on and Mick represented our club at the 2008 National Championships riding Kaz his Appaloosa friend. With all the doom and gloom in the current market and press reports on the economy Mick situation puts things in perspective. Mick is a true insperation on how we can all overcome adversity with the right mental attitude and determination. Mick is a valued member of the Club and I look forward to competing with him next year. |
